Khabarovsk-based Amurmetal facility starts exports to Asia

KHABAROVSK, Aug 18 (PRIME) -- The Amurmetal plant, the only metallurgical facility in Russia’s Far East that resumed operations in late July after a 6-month shutdown, has launched exports to Asia, the Far East Development Ministry said quoting Vladimir Lebedev, CEO of Torex-Khabarovsk, a resident of the Khabarovsk priority development area, on Friday.

“Over 60% of the products is exported to South-Eastern Asia, including Thailand, Philippines, Korea, which do not have large steel-making facilities due to a lack of energy resources, but have big rolling facilities,” the statement cited Lebedev as saying.

He also said the plant will sell about 25,000 tonnes of steel monthly on the domestic market.

Torex bought the facility in late January to become its strategic investor. The plant resumed operations on July 29, creating jobs for 2,700 people, and has produced over 30,000 tonnes of steel.
